:: BACKGROUND OF NBJK-USA ::
NBJK-USA was established on
the 17th of March, 2009 with the goals of building awareness and
educating the people of the US about the problems plaguing the people
living in rural areas of two of the poorest states of India, Jharkhand and
Bihar. Through trainings, meetings, rallies, literature and basic
word of mouth communication, NBJK-USA seeks to open the eyes of
Americans to the problems of India and the work being done to alleviate
it by NBJK-India. Therefore, a main purpose of NBJK-USA is to generate support through
financial and non-financial means by increasing awareness of the
problems in India that can then be shared with NBJK-India to promote
development projects in the most vulnerable areas.
Through over three decades
of work, NBJK-India has realized many successes, but have also witnessed
areas in which more work continually needs to be done in order to fill
the enormous needs of the rural people. It is in conjunction with
these needs that NBJK-USA is building awareness for two causes in
particular, the need to educate children, especially girls and the need
to provide eye care to those who do not have access. Therefore,
the hope of NBJK-USA is to garner support, build awareness and educate
the people of the US in order to provide NBJK-India with additional
resources targeted at improving the lives of those most vulnerable to
the trails and tribulations of poverty.
:: BACKGROUND OF NBJK-INDIA ::
In 1971, four engineering
students, who were highly sensitive to the causes of disparity,
exploitation and poverty, deserted their comfortable lifestyles and
turned towards exploring ways to establish a "just" society, in which no
one remains hungry, unemployed, discriminated against or exploited.
It was this through this vision that Nav Bharat Jagriti Kendra (The
Center for Indian New Beginnings) was established.
