NBJK-USA is seeking donations to support greater awareness building and advocacy work so that work can be done to educate the people of the US about the problems plaguing the poor in Jharkhand and Bihar. Through the country, NBJK-USA will be spreading the word about the issues facing the poor in India, especially girls and the elderly. The goal will be to educate people about the needs of young girls who are forced to leave school and get married at very early ages and about the needs of elderly people who lose their sight and can for a nominal fee regain not only their vision, but their independence and ability to earn a living.
NBJK-India's goal is to highlight two major problems facing the rural poor, girl's education and blindness. NBJK-USA, although its goals are to build awareness and open the eyes of Americans to the plight of poor Indians, will also spread the literature of NBJK-India as a means to increase donations to India. Below are two pleas from NBJK-India for donations to the work being done in Jharkhand and Bihar:
For the
price of a tank of gas or dinner for four, you can change the life of
someone in rural Jharkhand or Bihar. for only $50, you can be the
difference between a young girl being married at the age of 13 or going
to school and opening new doors to a life filled with opportunity and
choice. In the rural areas of Jharkhand and Bihar, the tradition
of dowry pervades meaning that many families do not see the need to
spend the money educating their girl children when they will also have
to pay a large dowry as well. Due to this, many girl's end their
education at 11 or 12 and are then married to older men and start
families, which forces them to leave their homes and any chance of
education behind. By sponsoring a girl's education, you can change
this cycle. The girl will be able to continue her studies and new
opportunities will be possible. The age of marriage will then be
delayed, which not only allows the girl to finish her education but it
also increases the girl's health as she is not having children at such a
young age. Please help make a difference in the life of one child
by giving the gift of education and opportunity.
For, for
the same low price of $50, you can be the difference between sight and
debilitating blindness. Cataracts is a severe yet treatable
condition. However, in Jharkhand and Bihar where there are limited
health facilities and thousands of rural poor go without treatment.
Cataracts therefore compounds poverty by stealing the sight and
productivity of its victims. For only $50 a man or a woman can
receive full treatment from highly qualified doctors at two of
NBJK-India's facilities that cater to the most vulnerable and desperate.
After the surgery, they will be able to see again, which will enable
them to be productive therefore increasing their income and their
livelihoods. Please help make a difference in the life of a
